Our History

Christ the Victor held its first service in the old 84 Lumber building on December 13, 2009 with 102 in attendance. Many in attendance were members of Victory Lutheran Church, who came to cheer us on. Our fist pastor was Don Thompson who came out of retirement to help get the church started and was with us for six months. Until January 2011, Christ the Victor did not have a permanent pastor, but things continued to happen: Sunday School, Women’s Ministry, Vacation Bible School, Craft Fair, Food Pantry, Habitat for Humanity.

Pastor Charles Newman came as our part-time pastor in January 2011. He brought to the church consistency and on-site leadership. He became our full-time pastor in March 2013. Under his leadership, more ministries were added such as a choir, men’s breakfast, women’s retreat, a book club, regular Bible studies became a reality, in addition to welcoming a non-denominational church with services on Saturday afternoon.

In June, 2014, Pastor Larry Kassebaum from Victory Lutheran assigned Pastor Bruce Lerum to Christ the Victor for one year for a fresh outlook of what our church could (and would) become. Pastor Bruce brought new excitement to our congregation. He listened to people and their concerns, visiting them in their homes.

A request with church member signatures was made to Victory Lutheran to make Pastor Bruce the permanent pastor for Christ the Victor. In December 2014, Victory Lutheran voted to make Pastor Bruce’s call to Christ the Victor permanent. Since that time, Christ the Victor has become an independent congregation of Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ (LCMC). On June 13, 2021, Pastor Bruce retired and on August 16, 2021, Pastor Mark Neumann assumed the role of Interim Pastor.

During the interim, Pastor Mark Chase accepted the call to be Christ the Victor’s new full-time pastor. He has been serving us since August 16, 2022.

Over the years, God has continued to bless us! We are seeing growth in all areas of our ministry, including our worship services, Sunday School and Confirmation programs, Bible studies, small groups, and community Food Pantry. On average, our Food Pantry feeds over 1,000 people each month!

We are humbled to see what the Lord is doing in our midst and we pray for the courage to follow whatever path he lays before us! Please join us and experience for yourself that “God is good, all the time!”
